Canada To Officially Legalize Marijuana By Summer 2018

Canada is set to be the next country to legalize both recreational and medical marijuana. Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government will officially announce legislation next month that will mean that marijuana will be legal in will Canada by July 1, 2018.

Trudeau’s policy to legalize pot was thought to be one of the several key reasons why he won the votes of young Canadians and was sworn in as President in 2015.

What will this mean for smokers?

Most likely, Canada will attempt to follow a similar structure to regulating the drug as the American states of Oregon, Washington D.C. and California when legalization comes into effect.

CBC reports that it will be up to individual provinces to control sales, while the “federal government will be in charge of making sure the country’s marijuana supply is safe and secure and Ottawa will license producers.”

Each province will be able to decide how marijuana is distributed and sold as well as what age people have to be to purchase it. Ottawa will reportedly set a minimum age of 18.

Those who wish to grow their own will also be limited to four plants per household.
